The new catamaran service connects Algeciras city with the Rock in forty minutes.
The Campo de Gibraltar, in Cadiz province, has a new tourist resort, a ferry that can go from Algeciras to the Rock of Gibraltar across the Bay in just 40 minutes.
The British colony, one of the main tourist attractions of the area is closer to the visitor and the Campo de Gibraltar, the southernmost part of Europe.
So far the only way to get to Gibraltar from any of its neighboring towns was through road, a shortcut that weekends and holidays may be slow, being many campogibraltareños and visitors who choose to enter Gibraltar shopping or visit La Roca. The new catamaran service launched by the company Transcoma offers 5 rotations per day from Monday to Friday and three on Saturday. The boat is called Punta Europa II, in honor of Europa Point, which made the route until 1969. Forty years later, a regular line rejoins Algeciras to Gibraltar, but this time, tourism is their main argument, since this line is directed especially to visitors.
The Punta Europa II has 150 seats and is 22 meters in length.
The Campo de Gibraltar has many tourist attractions like the beaches of Tarifa, the historic centers of Tarifa or Castellar itself or the golf courses and luxury housing developments in San Roque. There is the Valderrama golf course in albergo in 1997 the Ryder Cup in the only time in history that was held in a non-British European countryside. The Natural Park of the Acorns, Europe's greatest reserve of these conifers also reaches this region of Cadiz, which leads to the interior of this area is rich in vegetation and wildlife, making it a perfect setting for nature and rural tourism.
To the maritime line Algeciras, Gibraltar has recently joined their flight connections to Madrid through the company Andalus.
